Michael Vick’s Release Illuminates Society’s Sickness!

Amidst all the dis-ingenuity that is so pervasive not only in Washington but also in the whole of society, the NFL is beginning a new season.  And for the first time since being sentenced to prison for torturing and killing dogs, Michael Vick will be back in uniform.  With the gallows humor that is no stranger to the city of brotherly love….their fans attacked Santa Claus at an Eagle’s game in the 60′s…someone in Philly fashioned a sign that said: “Hide Your Beagle Vick’s an Eagle.“   This might be slightly funny if it didn’t punctuate the incredible perversion of truth that is at the core of this issue.

Don’t get me wrong, what Vick did was inexcusable, abhorrent, illegal and deserved at least the punishment he received.  PETA and the save the whale crowd had a field day going after him, and rightly so.  But, contrast this response to the  acceptance, protection and even adulation of those who champion the murder of defenseless unborn and recently born children.  This distorted worldview cannot be attacked in words harsh enough to  condemn this act of perversion.  A society with so little reverence for and protection of  the ultimate in defenselessness  is, doubtless, abominable in the sight of Almighty God.   As a society we have  truly “traded the truth for a lie.”

Vick is truly a gifted athlete.  Is he contrite over his acts as he tried to show in his rambling public apology?  I have no idea!   He will likely have some level of success in his comeback attempt.  I’d really like to see Vick be a glaring light that shines on the dichotomy between the the protection of the proponents of  and participants in abortion and the likes of Vick.  When you see Vick this season, think of this dichotomy and use it as a catalyst to help in eliminating this horrific act of abortion from our society.

In 2004,  Focus on the Family began a program entitled Option Ultrasound, designed to protect  unborn children of women who enter pregnancy centers seeking an abortion.  Ultrasound machines and training on their use is provided through  machines and grants given by Focus.  Since its origination, Operation Ultrasound has been successful in saving close to 73,000 babies.  When allowed to see the ultrasound of the human growing in them, 70% of the mothers choose to have the child.

Carried to the next level, the acceptance of abortion as legal and right paves the way for euthanasia.  The health care bill being debated so hotly today reeks with the stench of diminishing the value of human life.  We are on a  slippery slope, one that could lead to destruction of lives….and a society.  If we are not a part of the protection we are a part of the destruction.
