Just Say “No” . . . To INDOCTRINATION!!!
Boy, oh BOY! Talk about ‘just in the nick of time’! Had we not already made the decision at the end of last year to home school our kids, we’d pull them out this week for sure. Can you imagine the uproar from the left if anything even remotely like this had been implemented by either of the Bush administrations? Even when I was in grade school, I don’t remember ever having a President involved in ANYTHING except the fitness certificates given out each year . . . for which I never qualified. I do however, remember learning that such a thing as ‘addressing the school children’ was typical of Fidel Castro. We’ve all heard the story of when Castro came into power (indoctrinating the children was near the top of the communist priorities list), school age children were told to bow their heads and pray to God for candy and received nothing. Then were told to bow their heads, pray to Castro for candy and lo and behold! Candy was there for them . . . Comrade Obama is just a little more subtle.
Never have we been MORE convinced that home school is the answer for this family. If nothing else but to learn about what freedom and liberty USED to be like, and how it all started. As a matter of fact, the curriculum our children are in right now is far more complex than any public school material we’ve ever seen. And shut my mouth, it’s HARD. Our ninth grade daughter’s American Literature has started off the year by reading and understanding William Bradford’s “Of Plymouth Plantation”. Don’t know what that is? A lot of people don’t. And you can bet that no one in the Obama administration knows what it is. Or if they DO know, they despise it. It is the most detailed first hand account (diary) of the Pilgrims struggle in existence today. Reading it is difficult at best because of the style in which it was written. I searched and found a short synopsis (the first Thanksgiving) that has been ‘interpreted’ into modern vernacular. I lifted this from a fact filled website called “Freedom Keys” about the founding of this country:
William Bradford was the governor of the original Pilgrim colony, founded at Plymouth in 1621. The colony was first organized on a communal basis, as their financiers required. Land was owned in common. The Pilgrims farmed communally, too, following the “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs” precept.
The results were disastrous. Communism didn’t work any better 400 years ago than it does today. By 1623, the colony had suffered serious losses. Starvation was imminent.
Bradford realized that the communal system encouraged and rewarded waste and laziness and inefficiency, and destroyed individual initiative. Desperate, he abolished it. He distributed private plots of land among the surviving Pilgrims, encouraging them to plant early and farm as individuals, not collectively.
The results: a bountiful early harvest that saved the colonies. After the harvest, the Pilgrims celebrated with a day of Thanksgiving — on August 9th.
Why doesn’t the President read the Constitution on tape, and play that for our school children? Or, read them the story of Thanksgiving as a lesson on hard work and dedication? The answer is because neither of those things bring him any glory. And that’s what everything seems to be from Obama~about his own glory.
OK, the administration has removed a few things like having the children write papers about “What can I do to help President Obama?”, but all they are doing is removing the dust cover from their playbook. It doesn’t change what’s inside OR their intent. I urge you parents, decide for yourself what your school includes in your children’s education and “In matters of principle, stand like a rock.”~Thomas Jefferson
Amidst all this chaos . . .God loves me . . .
